About of Santa María del Oro


 

Santa Maria del Oro took their name of 3 small mines or real that were exploited near the population during the XVIII century. Territory of contrasts that go of zones of extraordinary nature preserves to regions of vast mountains and uninhabitable lands. Santa Maria del Oro was erected to subprefectura on the 1º of July of 1891, belonging al parted of Tepic that according to the political organization of the territory, remained since 1884, structured in eight parties of administration and government. It is affirmed for the old of this municipality, that Santa Maria del Oro was attacked two times by the called epidemic "rage morbus" between the years 1833 and 1850, where this last year produced the death at more than 75 percent of its habitants. During the revolutionary epoch, the habitants of the municipality participated determined to fight the state of exploitation and misery, being incorporated to the constitutional army. The mining zone of the municipality was also setting of revolutionary fights.

Political, master and general of division. Was one of the leaders of the strike of Cananea in 1906. It apprehended, was sentenced to 15 years of prison in The Tinajas of San Juan of Ulúa, where was freed al triumph of the revolution in 1910. Was temporary Governor of the State of Colima and Governor of the State of Nayarit.
