Of the nearby choices, Guadalajara’s airport has the most fly-in options, with over 25 of the world’s major cities and airports having direct flights daily. LAGO ESCONDIDO Hotel Boutique is located 115 miles northwest of Guadalajara.
We will gladly make arrangements on your behalf to have safe service providers pick you up at the airport or you can consider the following options:
- From Guadalajara you can drive on a two lane, very modern and well maintained toll road (around $25 US) most of the way. Only the last 12 miles of the way (once you get off the toll road at the "Santa Maria del Oro" Exit) are quite twisty. This last part is actually when you get into the crater and begin the descend to “La Laguna” (The Lagoon). The road is in good condition, but it is narrow, so extra caution is recommended.
- Out of Guadalajara you take Highway 15 North to Tepic. You will drive 100 miles until the Santa Maria del Oro exit, where you will take the exit to Santa Maria del Oro town (7 miles), you drive straight through town, then begin the downhill to "La Laguna" (The Lagoon) for 7 miles. Once you reach the lake, turn right and drive around the lake, you will see signs guiding you to the Resort from there.
On the drive from Guadalajara you will be passing some very interesting places like Tequila (the original place where the drink was created and is still manufactured), Jala, Los Toriles and El Ceboruco among others.
- From Guadalajara´s airport you can also take a taxi ride to LAGO ESCONDIDO Hotel Boutique ($110 US, make sure they will use the toll road). It should be around a two hour drive.
- By bus, it is not possible to go directly to Santa Maria from Guadalajara, although buses pass by the Santa Maria exit, still 15 miles away from the Resort, and there are no other services in the area to provide the rest of the transportation. The best way by bus from Guadalajara is to take a bus to Tepic ($17 US) and from there you will have some more options to get to the Lake of Santa Maria del Oro.
